Baking
Baking could be called the oldest profession. The first ovens were thought to be communal. Somewhere in the midst of the community a single oven was constructed and everyone baked bread on the same day. This made the best use of fuel.
During Roman times, there were huge imperial bakeries and kitchens where bread was baked. The first domestic oven is thought to have been created around 1800 years ago in Bulgaria. It was basically cut into a rock wall and heated from below by burning firewood. Though simple, this is the design of modern wood burning ovens.
