Remodeling an Older Home

Phil and I have were in the Navy and saw more of work than we did of each other. When we left the Navy we thought we might live together. That did not happen. We had a commuter marriage for 8 years while I attended seminary and served as a United Methodist pastor for five years. Too long apart! We are now living together in San Antonio and we bought a little house in 2008. We have been renovating ever since. Follow along with us as we record our efforts. The Blog

The House in Fredericksburg

We love Fredericksburg, TX. In 1991 we purchased a 3.5 acre building plot in between Stonewall and Fredericksburg, just up from the Pedernales River. We paid it off just after we left the Navy and first built a tool shed, then a gazebo so we would have a place to sit and dream. Eventually, we built a garage and finally, in 2005 we built the house.

We chose to build a traditional Texas Hill Country home using non-traditional building materials. The walls of our home were constructed at the Real People Homes factory in Leakey, TX and trucked over to our building lot where it was assembled. The house has steel framing with styrofoam insulation. It is then rocked with native rock all around. The walls under the porches are stucco. We blogged our experiences building the house. One of our favorite museums:

Enjoy some modern art.

Another San Antonio fav:

You'll find more than art at the Witte.
